Mrs Annie Lue Ellison

June 5, 1932 ~ February 21, 2021 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Tribute

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Annie, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend to all whose lives she touched.

She was in her 88th year. She was born June 5,1932 in Brownsville, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Leverone and Rosie Jones.

She grew up on a farm and was a star basketball player. She was one of few women offered a sports scholarship at that time to go to college. But her passion was to travel and see the world. The death of her brother Jesse during the Korean War fueled that passion with a desire to travel to Asia to pay homage to her brother. She joined the Army in 1955 and served in The Women’s Army Corps (WAC). It was while stationed in Kansas that she met Robert Ellison. They would later marry and start a family in his home town of Richmond, California.

Annie was an avid student of religion and history. She was well versed in the teachings of the Bible, Christianity and Judaism. Her travel to Israel and the Holy Land in 1985  further fueled her passion and love of God. She possessed a wonderful collection of books of spiritual and religious teachings and even wrote a book.

Annie was a philanthropist. She donated generously to the Bay Area Rescue Mission, Disabled Veterans, International Fellowship of Christian and Jews, and March of Dimes, just to name a few.

She was proud of the fact that she rarely missed a day of work. She carried the mail for almost 30 years at the San Pablo Post Office until her retirement in 1992.

She imparted this work ethic and love of travel and history to her 5 children who she raised as a single parent in Richmond, California.
