Phyllis S. Sliger died Wednesday, March 17, 2021 in a hospice home in Pinole, California of natural causes. She was 99 years old at the time of her demise.
She was born Phyllis Elizabeth Smith in Lyons, New York, on January 19, 1922, to Mr. and Mrs. Claude James Smith. She had one younger brother, David William Smith, deceased. She attended the Rochester Business Institute for secretarial training. In 1942, she married R. Donald Hilfiker. They had two daughters, Donna Lee Potharas and Gail Rae Miller, and lived in Spencerport, New York. She worked as a salesclerk at Sibley’s for a number of years in Rochester, New York. In 1962, she bought a house and moved to Rodeo, California where she met and married John Sliger. She worked a number of years as a salesclerk in Montgomery Wards in Richmond, and later as a lab technician at Kaiser Permanente. In her spare time, she loved gardening, bird watching, doing crossword puzzles, and reading. She enjoyed checking out new grocery stores and collected recipes, household tips, and clocks. Spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends brought her great pleasure.
She is survived by her two daughters, three grandsons, Thomas and James Miller and Kip Potharas, and four great-grand children, Elizabeth Ann and Henry Bernard Margulies and Draven and Dante Miller.
