Sunrise: February 19, 1959 Sunset: April 17, 2020
Stanley Bull was born February 19, 1959 in Oakland, California. He was the seventh child of eight children, born to Adam Bull and Helen Frasure-Bull. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Cheryl, and brothers Kenneth and Robert.
Stanley graduated from Castlemont High School in Oakland, CA in 1977. After graduating from high-school he began his career at Union Bank. After five years of dedicated service, he accepted a position at California Oils Corporation in Richmond, CA where he worked until January 6, 2017, when he retired from their Accounting Department.
In May of 2005, Stanley united in marriage with Kathy Mason Logan and they enjoyed fifteen wonderful years of marriage. The last two years of his life both were retired and they traveled to Chicago, New York, Las Vegas, San Diego, South Carolina, Kansas and Wisconsin. Stanley loved attending family reunions and visiting family.
Stanley accepted the Lord Jesus Christ into his life at an early age and became a minister in his early thirties. He was ordained in 1982 at St. Andrew Missionary Baptist Church in Oakland, CA. He was a member of First African Methodist Episcopal (FAME) church for over 20 years under the leadership of Dr. Harold R. Mayberry, where he played the bass guitar and sang in the Augustus Bowie Male Chorus. In 2019, Stanley attended the Renewed Hope Ministry Church under the leadership of Pastor LaRhonda Martin, where he played the bass guitar.
Music was in his heart. Stanley was a vocalist, musician, song writer, and musical composer. While in high school, he took vocal classes from Phillip Reeder and joined the Castleers Vocal Ensemble, whose members in the 1970s toured the world performing a variety of songs that included R&B and gospel. A popular song which he led with the Castleers was I Told Jesus. While still in high school, Stanley was accepted in the Young Musicians Program at the University of California, Berkeley where he continued his musical training singing as a first tenor, and first met Music Director, Bill Bell who became a father figure to him.
Stanley joined his musical gifts with high school friend Crystal Mapp Vales and wrote music, played bass and sang with her in the group CMV. Stanley also sang tenor with the Oakland Bay Area Community Chorus under the direction of Bill Bell. He sang several years in the Colors of Christmas Show choir at the San Francisco Symphony, under the direction of Rev. Jeffrey Williams. There he sang behind Stephanie Mills, Marilyn McCoo, Billy Davis, BeBe Winans, Peabo Bryson and many others. In 2012, Stanley went to Ghana, Africa with his sister Fredonia, wife Kathy and other singers from (FAME) where they sang, under the direction of Jeffrey Williams, in the First Annual Chorale Festival in Ghana.
When his children were young, Stanley formed a group called The Bull Brothers, comprised of himself, his three sons and his nephew. The Bull Brothers sang, danced and played music for small churches around the Bay Area and recorded a CD entitled All These Blessings. In addition to writing and composing all the songs on the All These Blessings CD, Stanley wrote, recorded and performed his 2018 single Listen to the Voice of Jehovah.
Gardening was a passion of Stanley. In January 2018, he received a Master Gardener Certification from the UC Master Gardener Program of Contra Costa County. With this knowledge in horticulture and gardening, he grew and cared for all types of plants, flowers, fruits, and vegetables and loved sharing them within his community. He especially enjoyed doing gardening presentations to children in middle school, bringing each child seeds and potting materials and promising to return in a few months to see how their plants had grown. Stanley loved children.
Stanley owned and operated a re-upholstery business, a carpet and furniture cleaning business, had developed an essential oil/moisturizer business, which he named after his daughter Danel, and was in the midst of launching his own beard grooming product line. Stanley used his products on his own beard, about which he received many compliments.
He took great pride in plotting the family tree. Stanley made amazing discoveries and great revelations in finding so many family members. While he lived, Stanley was indeed a family man and a father figure to many who crossed his path. He loved to share his wisdom and knowledge with everyone that he knew. We will miss his smile, laughter, funny jokes, music, long……long…conversations, love for new and innovative ideas, enthusiasm, knowledge, mentoring and his kindness.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Kathy, four siblings, Dorothy, Fredonia, Mary and Ronnie, two daughters Danel and Karen, three sons David, Steven and Glenn, four grandchildren, Autreyu, Auryoen, Empress and Rie, and a whole host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, associates, and clients whom he loved dearly.
On this life page of Reverend Stanley Bull, please upload pictures, write remarks, anecdotes, condolences, what you will miss about him, funny conversations, or whatever you feel like sharing. And when this pandemic is over and social distancing is lifted we will have a date and place where we meet, greet, hug, laugh and remember Stanley together. Hope to see you there.
