Wayne Rodrigues Farinas, was born to Mabel (Rodrigues) and Max Farinas on July 13, 1949 in Hawaii. He was the fourth child, though his twin brother arrived shortly after, making Wayne immediately a big brother. He moved to San Francisco with his father, brothers, and sisters at the age of 9. Wayne began his apprenticeship as a pressman with the San Francisco Newspaper Agency (SF Chronicle & Examiner) shortly after high school. Apart from a short stint with the US Army after being drafted, he proudly worked as a pressman for the newspaper, and was a member of Web Pressman’s Union Local 4, for 42 years until his retirement in 2009.
After retiring from the Chronicle, Wayne stayed more than active; some would say he even started his second career as much of his time and activities were spent in service of his beloved church. Wayne was an active member of Living Hope Neighborhood Church and the Men’s Bible Study. He volunteered his time and talents in supporting outreach activities with the homeless and needy, served as the ‘sound guy’ for many years, and with his good friend Pete Riley, became the trusted handymen for the Church and many parishioners when odd jobs, or any variety of assistance was needed. He quietly and humbly assisted in any way possible to help his friends, family, and church members any time of day or night.
Wayne departed this life on May 22, 2022 at his home in Richmond, CA. His kind, good-natured soul will be genuinely missed, but the love and legacy he leaves behind will be fondly carried on by those who were blessed to have known and loved him.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 21 years, Jennifer Reber; children, Warren Farinas (wife, Kari), Chris Farinas, and Melissa (Farinas) Hetzer (husband, Wolfgang); sisters Maggie Smith and Christine Becker Robison; grandsons, Ryan Farinas and Zander Farinas; as well as Goddaughter, Kathy Valdez and three generations of much-loved nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Mabel; siblings Mariano “Macky” Farinas, James “Buddy” Becker, Feliza “Midge” Torres, and most recently his twin brother, Leroy “Lee” Farinas, who passed in February. The twins shared the same smile and laugh, now they will share heaven together.
Family and friends are invited to Wayne’s Celebration of Life, being held 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 25th, 2022 at Living Hope Neighborhood Church, 2800 Rheem Ave., Richmond, CA 94804.
“I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart.
And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.
So don’t be troubled or afraid” - John 14:27
