November 23, 1937 ~ January 24, 2022 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Tribute

Richard Martin Lompa was born November 23, 1937 to parents Ernest and Elsie Lompa. Richard passed away January 24, 2022 at age 84, peacefully in his sleep at his home in Point Richmond. He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years Connie Lompa, his first wife Susan Joyce, sons Ernest and wife Nancy and John and wife Stacy Lompa, brother Frederic and wife Kathy Lompa, cousins Ronald and wife Margot and Carl and wife Marilyn Aquistapace and five grandchildren Heather, John Jr., Hailey, Kristiana, and Dustin Lompa. Richard was in the printing business all his working life. He began working for his uncle Murry Aquistapace at Richmond Blueprint while still attending Richmond High School. After graduating in 1955, he worked with his uncle for the next eleven years. He met Susan Joyce Bowers in 1961 and they married February 17, 1962 in Oakland, California. Their first child Ernest Frederic Lompa was born June 14, 1967. Their second son John Paul Lompa was born March 26, 1973, both at Richmond Hospital where Richard and his mother Elsie were also born. Richard and Susan established their own company, Lompa Printing in 1967. Through lots of hard work the business was very successful and they were able to enjoy building three houses in South Lake Tahoe. Richard began playing Rugby in his thirties when most players started much earlier and the sport quickly became his passion. Playing tight head prop for the San Francisco Rugby Club he traveled throughout the US, Asia and Europe. Richard had tremendous energy and creativity and a very practical nature. He had a particular love for Pt. Richmond where he and Susan built a home on the water almost entirely of recycled wood. Richard had a talent in purchasing properties for their historical value and with an eye toward appreciation. He helped both sons establish their business in the printing industry; for Ernest, On Line Bindery and for John, Trade Litho. Even when he was no longer working in the printing business and had married Connie, Richard never retired. He enthusiastically enjoyed redeveloping properties, always following his own unique creativity.  He and Connie supported the development of several small businesses in Pt. Richmond. One of his favorites, The Up and Under Pub and Grill, is filled with Rugby memorabilia. He was committed to preserving the historical old jail and fire station and redeveloped spaces for other small restaurants nearby. Richard was a familiar personage around the Point and most days could be found sitting in his white truck or in the parklet across from the Pub. Always available for meeting and greeting, he enjoyed engaging in lively conversation.  His presence, exuberant enthusiasm and kindness to others will certainly be missed.
