Tribute

Family and friends are invited to attend the scheduled services honoring the life of Mr. Fred Robertson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Wilson & Kratzer Mortuaries- Civic Center Chapel located on 455 24th Street, Richmond, Ca. beginning promptly at 11:00AM.  

             The youngest child of Marvin and Ruby Robertson, Fred was born at Berkeley’s former Herrick Hospital.

Fred’s family united with Davis Chapel AME church. His parents were active at Davis Chapel until their health no longer allowed them to do so.

             Fred’s family settled in Richmond, and Fred became a student in the Richmond Unified School District. Fred attended Peres Elementary, Roosevelt Jr. High School and graduated from Richmond Union High School in 1964. Following graduation from high school, Fred held numerous jobs in the local area. He often worked as a custodian in the evenings with his Father, servicing local businesses. Later, Fred accepted a job as a Warehouseman with Chevron’s Richmond Refinery. Fred also held positions with Garrett Outdoor Advertising, Brockway Glass and Standard Oil.

For the last 28 years, Fred was a Security Supervisor for the Moscone Convention Center. Prior to his retirement in April of 2018 to devote time and care to Linda, who was in Stroke recovery. Fred began as a Guard, working in an outdoor shack but was eventually promoted to Supervisor. Fred would tell stories about his crew and before retirement had narrowed his schedule but still appreciated his long-term relationships.

In 1977, Fred and Linda Walker became united in holy matrimony. To this union one Son, Christopher Ryan was born joining the family which already included Fred’s first daughter, Tanya.

In the early days, Fred and Linda vacationed in Southern California and enjoyed weekends away to Reno. As the years passed their travels broadened and their trips included Toronto, Florida, Savannah, New York, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Together they flew to Mississippi, giving Fred a true taste of the South. There were numerous cruises to the Caribbean, and many trips to Maui, Fred’s favorite destination of all.

Fred was a passionate Sports fan, enjoying the LA Lakers and Toronto Blue Jays. He also loved Formula 1 Auto Racing, and Women’s Golf. An encyclopedia of College Sports facts, Fred was a huge fan of Southern California schools.

Never without music,  Fred’s iPhone was always full of his favorite tunes. His music always followed him, and he frequently traveled with headphones and a portable speaker. Fred loved the sounds of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, the Rippingtons, Pat Metheny and so many others. Wherever he sat in the car, it was his personal playlist blaring sounds over the Speakers.

Those left to sing Fred’s song are his beloved wife, Linda Robertson; son, Christopher; daughter, Tanya; grandchildren, Julian Little; and Abrianna Robertson; sister, Marvie Jean Darden; as well as nieces and nephews, Marcia, Christopher Sr., Christopher Jr., Chase, Tiffany, Janae, and Chloe. His parents and two older siblings preceded him in death.
